Chimney Sweeping

What is it, and why it’s so important for the safety of your home and family.

Although Chimney sweeping sounds simple, it's actually a very detailed process requiring expert care to be done correctly, and cleanly I might add, it is also key to maintaining your chimney and protecting your home and family.

Whenever you are using any of your vented appliances, stoves, fireplaces, furnaces etc, your chimney is working hard to keep all of the harmful substances safely contained inside the flue to carry out into the atmosphere. But over time, debris such as creosote (a residue that results from the unburned flue gasses settling inside your chimney) can build up leading to blockages, and in some cases dangerous chimney fires. A chimney fire can burn at temperatures of up to 2000 degrees, melting mortar, cracking flue tiles, melting metal flue pipes and in severe cases catching fire to the combustible wood framing of a house. A well trained chimney sweep professional from The Chimney Company can thoroughly and safely scrub and remove all of the creosote and debris making your chimney safe to use, and more efficient to burn.

Chimney sweeping as a service is an affordable and very important part of your home maintenance that keeps you safe and in the long term saves you money.

The National Fire Protection Agency says that chimneys should be inspected annually and cleaned as needed. This ensures that the system is working properly and that you will be safe while enjoying your fireplace.

According to the NFPA for fires between 2005 and 2009, heating equipment was the second leading cause of home fires and home fire deaths but the leading cause of deaths resulting from fires in one- or two-family homes. Making sure you have your chimney appliance cleaned each year is an inexpensive and efficient way to protect your family from becoming one of these statistics.

However, for many, even though Cleaning your chimney is listed at the top of the CPSC Fire Safety Check List, they have no idea what the chimney technician is really doing. We believe you should be an educated consumer when it comes to the care and maintenance of your fireplace.

The number one concern most consumers have with chimney sweepers in your home is the mess that is envisioned. However; THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO MESS! That’s right! There is no mess and just in case you are interested in how we do that, here are the steps we take to make sure that your home is as clean, if not cleaner, after the job is complete.
